A superb reproduction of a ‘Syrian Idol’ in sandstone, the original of which dates back to 4000 BC. These idols were frequently used as votive offerings and were also used as portable amulets in ancient Mesopotamia (especially when they were small).
They represent the human figure in abstract form, with eyes symbolising the ability to see or communicate with deities. The looped motifs on these sculptures evoke continuity and sacredness, underlining their role in the religious practices of the time. Hand-carved by our craftsmen in our workshops, it has been given a patina to give it the cachet of the period.
